Uptown Plaza Home

Uptown Plaza was my first home in Hong Kong. It was also one of the best places I have lived.

Uptown Plaza Home
My favourite thing about this apartment is the view. It is the mix of green and older buildings with the mountains in the background. It was a great way to wake up in the morning.

It’s my first home in Hong Kong and feels like the best home I have had in a long time. In Korea, most of the places I lived were closets – studio apartments and even something called a goshi wan (고시원), where I could lie on my bed and touch all four walls. There was a shared washroom.

Uptown Plaza sits on a small local mall, making it easy to get groceries, something quick to eat, and other conveniences. It also sits on the transit system with the trains taking me up to work and down into the city. There are buses nearby, making it easy to get around the city. I got the place through a friend who changed jobs and offered me to take over his lease while he moved somewhere else for a new job. I would be replacing him at his job, so I might as well take his home.

With two bedrooms, it was one of the largest homes I have ever lived in on my own.

The place is older, over 30 years, and it is still large enough and a place for me to grow. I dated and met my love while living here. I went through my first typhoons and black rainstorms in Hong Kong. My only problem with the place is spending so much money on a place I barely stay in. I am always either at work, at school (studying at the University of Hong Kong), meeting friends (in Sai Kung) or wandering around the city. The price at $13,000 HKD ($1,600 USD) is not worth it, and I found a place for under $10,000.

I tried to make my place more of a home with flowers

This was a great introduction to the city.
